Registrations

Local Council

Check with your local council about their requirements for registration, housing and breeding of cats.

If you are going board cats, you will also need permission from your local council and a license.

You may also be required to gain the permission of your close neighbours.

State Legislation

Strict new laws have recently been introduced in Victoria regarding the operation of breeding and rearing activities by the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI).

Make sure you are fully aware of the legislation in your state and make sure you comply.

Cat Registration Body

You also need to check out the cat registration bodies in your State and decide on which to join.

You then need to Register as a Breeder and Register a Breeding Prefix.

A prefix is the name which identifies your cats and kittens, and you as their breeder e.g.  Topcats Bobby, ‘Topcats’ being the prefix.

Breeding cats that you have purchased will need to be transferred to your name as owner and then registered with your cat registration body.
